$3.55 trillion is the total weight of private equity capital currently deployed by the world’s 150 largest institutional allocators. This figure represents an 8 percent increase over the previous year, signaling a structural deepening of private market exposure despite broader fluctuations in public valuations. The distribution remains heavily concentrated at the top, where the ten largest limited partners now manage approximately $1.1 trillion in private equity assets, maintaining an average allocation of 21 percent of their total assets under management.

Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, leads the ranking with a $168.5 billion allocation. The fund, which oversees a total portfolio of $936 billion, has integrated private equity across a wide spectrum of entry points, from direct buyouts and minority growth investments to venture capital and the developing secondaries market. This scale allows GIC to act not merely as a passive provider of capital, but as a primary architect of deal structures in both established and emerging markets.

North American public pension funds and global sovereign wealth entities continue to define the market's trajectory, collectively driving the 8.7 percent year-over-year growth in total committed capital. In Canada, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) has tripled its private equity exposure, a move that mirrors a broader trend among sophisticated allocators seeking to mitigate public market volatility through longer-term, illiquid assets. The persistence of these allocations suggests that for the world's largest pools of capital, private equity is no longer an alternative asset class but a central pillar of the institutional balance sheet.
